Xbox 360 Delayed. Say It Isnt So!

A listener of our show today, sent me links to a bunch of thread posts(thanks Joseph). Basically in short the rumour is 23rd of March is the new release date.

Now i am with you, forum posts are not the most reliable source of information (though some intresting things certainly leak that way, on a side note i was trolling the Duke nukem forever website but still nothing damn those tight lipped sonofabitchs). However also consider the reliablity of Microsoft, its well documented their shortages in the states and europe, do they really have enough to spare for us?

On to the supposed facts, firstly the Chief editor of the Offical Aussie Xbox magazine made a post on some forums saying that he had offical word that *confidential* information has slipped out of retail supply chains about the delay. Intrestingly enough this post, and several other related ones, have been pulled from the forums(Derwent Howard forums, the people who run/publish the offical Xbox Mag also offical ps2 damn they must be good at towing the company line to publish two offical mags) but not before the word went out to other forums. Also a thread was started on Derwent Howard forums, to answer peoples questions about the missing posts, simply by it being stated that to find out what happend you must pm the post owner. http://forums.derwenthoward.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=3173, currently i am waiting for a pm back. Now this did happen a couple days ago but is only now starting to spread faster (as noted by this blog post,TGS there just as soon as shit starts blowing up).

Secondly, one of the links (http://forums.xbox.com/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1962080) has a post from a supposed employee of the gaming chain GameRush(owned by blockbuster i think) who says they recieved a email (the most trusted form of communication) from headoffice today(the day he made the posted Saturday 21st, is the slow spread due to it being a weekend?) saying that the xbox 360 release date was being changed to 23 of march and that it has been changed in the systems. He also goes on to add that now his store is going to/or have started calling all the customers with pre-orders to let them know. Apparently he thinks GameRush will offer some preorder compensation for the delay. Some other posts in the thread claim to have heard claims from other stores (eb in one i bothered to read).

True? I honestly dont know? Likely yes!Rumour reliablity dubious at best, after a couple days you would expect it to have broken, however they be waiting until early next week to organise a press release.

So please go ahead read the threads, google your hearts out, speculate like crazy. Ill post updates when and if i recieve them, but until then let me leave you with one universal truth “You wont know until you know”

Playstation 3 Release Dates

Ofcourse nothing official has been announced but Absolutely is claiming the following release dates for the PS3.

Japan - Spring 2006, most likely around April or May
US - Late 2006
Europe - Early 2007
Australia - Early 2007

For some reason I find this completely false, I don’t see sony release there console a full year behind Xbox, but then again stranger things have happened. And of course Australia and Europe get the shit end of the deal.

GTA Liberty City Stories a simulation game?

There has been recent speculation (check our upcoming podcast) on the upcoming GTA game for the psp actually being a simulation game more like a Championship Manger than a true GTA title. This stems from recent annocements that you will actual play as the boss of the family and not a low level dude working his way up (bye bye Rocky feel good feeling). The game is apparently the same size as GTA Vice city, and the speculation is that while u can free roam the world, it will only be to supervise gang jobs and not actual particpation. We here at TGS certainly hope/believe this will turn out to be a load of bullshit.

PS3 to come with Keyboard and Mouse?

Apprently Sony is going to be implementing a PS3 keyboard and mouse combo. At the game dev conference Sony exces are quoted as saying that you will be able to play Unreal Tornament 2007 with the WASD/Pointer combo. Lets hope this is true because I hate using controllers for FPS on consoles.

Amazon France is at it Again this time with the PS3

Seems that Amazon France knows some things that we all don’t. They are claiming a 15 March 06 release date for the PS3, and a price point of $399.99 euro. Of course take this as only a rumor.

Xbox 360 HD-DVD?

Now take this with a grain of salt, but according to “someone” who posted on wikipedia, the Xbox 360 will be HD-DVD. Just not straight away. Heres the quote.

“On November 25th the Xbox 360 will be upgraded to HD-DVD in the Premium Version only. This can easily be seen by the different drives in the core system and the premium system. The Core System will be released a few weeks earlier than the HD-DVD premium version. HD-DVD version comes out November 25th.”

Again take this as a rumor, still interesting though.

Nintendo Revolution Release Date and Price?

File this in the rumor bag, but Amazon France is claiming a 16 June 2006 release date for the Revolution, and a price point of $299 Euro. This does seem a little high, considering Xbox 360’s price, and the fact that the Nintendo has stated many times that the revolution will cost less and be less advance than its two counterparts.

Sony Playstation 3 $299?

Earlier today it was discovered Amazon.com has a posted a price on the new Sony Playstation console of US $299 here.
The price is obviously an estimate based on the xbox 360 pricing recently released, and by all accounts an unrealistic estimation(based on sony’s executives statements). The reason i am posting this however is to highlight the stupifying use of the Amazon.com review system( the same thing can be seen with other online stores such as ebgames) where a product yet to be released has 26+ reviews, rants and hype and inuendo. So more than anything i urge you leave the hype to the professionals, because we wouldnt want hype’s reputation dragged through the mud by actually being accurate for once in its life.

Rumour PSP SDTV Tuner

In recent weeks hype surrounding a possible Standard Definition Digtial Tuner for the psp has been gaining momentum. This is not the much talked about video streaming service Sony execs have been talking about but rather a hardware accessory for the reception of digital free to air tv. The rumours seem to be wild as they have not suggested a company or any individual actually pursuing this technology but us here at The Gaming Show hope that some budding company jumps all over this idea.
